Summary

Under the direction of the VP/CNO, develops, implements, and monitors the patient care delivery system and nursing practice standards in collaboration with the nursing management team. Responsible for the quality of patient care and provides leadership, planning, coordination, direction, and evaluation of operations. Accountable for leading quality, financials, employee engagement, and patient experience in alignment with the organization’s strategic goals.

Span of Control

As applicable, this role includes 24/7 accountability for supervision of personnel and ensuring safe, high-quality patient care through appropriate resource use.

Responsibilities and Standards
  • Under the direction of the VP/CNO, plan, organize, direct, and evaluate nursing practice standards for all units.
  • Assume 24/7 accountability for supervision of personnel and facilitate optimal patient care through appropriate resource use to provide safe, quality care.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, feedback and foster teamwork in a positive work environment; value and support diversity.
  • Lead and be accountable for reaching organizational goals; provide recommendations to the VP/CNO for strategic growth targets.
  • Assume responsibility for effective fiscal management of the department to ensure proper utilization of financial resources; analyze data to support business decisions.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary and interdepartmental communication for effective operation of clinical services; collaborate with all internal and external constituencies.
  • Collaborate with Quality Department Leadership to ensure regulatory compliance; identify performance improvement and patient safety opportunities and develop, implement, monitor and evaluate quality and safety initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain an environment that supports service excellence; serve as a role model for staff, patients, and families.
  • Foster open communication and ensure information is shared to promote effective operations and positive employee relations.
  • Where Collective Bargaining Agreements exist, partner with Human Resources to maintain a standardized approach to employee engagement and labor relations; participate in labor negotiations and labor management activities.
  • Ensure ongoing personal and professional development; translate evidence-based data into practice.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Professional Development to identify and develop educational programs to maintain staff skill sets and foster growth.
  • Support shared governance by nursing leadership and staff; act as a mentor and leader to help others understand the model.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Job Qualifications

    Education: BSN or advanced degree in nursing required. Master’s Degree in Nursing or related fields required.

    Experience:
    At least five years of experience in Nursing Leadership with comparable scope. Nursing Executive Certification preferred. Membership in a healthcare/nursing professional organization preferred.

    License:
    New York State RN License
