Overview of Primary ResponsibilitiesThe Residential Recovery Counselor will support the day-to-day operations of the residential recovery program, ensuring compliance with state and OASAS regulations as well as agency policies and procedures for adults in recovery. This position oversees day-to-day routines of residents: wakeup, grooming/dressing, preparing for work, programs or appointments, shared mealtimes, household tasks, social/recreational activities, and PM curfews. Provide direct support for up to 12 residents by enforcing adherence to house rules, policies and practices for all residents and visitors.
PrimaryFunctions
- Orient residents to the program, local surroundings, and community resources.
- Conduct urine drug screens and breathalyzer with residents according to protocol.
- Provide direct, on-site supervision for up to 12 residents and oversee day-to-day functioning of the house.
- Support the resident in acquiring activities of daily living skills, community living, and work readiness skills.
- Hold/facilitate resident meetings to plan meals or outings, assign chores, and listen to feedback.
- Report safety concerns at residence and follow-through to resolution.
- Respond to routine and/or emergency medical needs as required.
- Hold resident accountable to the core aspects of their recovery program.
- Discuss with House Manager and, as necessary, provide written notes regarding the response of the resident to community living and compliance with treatment plan.
- Track and attend mandatory trainings.
- Assist the client in applying de‑escalation, problem solving and crisis resolution skills.
- Complete weekly written observational reports regarding attitudes, behaviors and contributions to the house and involvement in the recovering community.
- Maintain consistent weekly contact with House Manager.
- Notify House Manager of residents’ late arrival or no return from curfew.
- Perform additional duties that help to ensure the quality of resident services provided.
- Monitor family visits and provide assistance to residents as necessary.
- Provide assistance to residents concerning growth and sobriety issues.
- Assist with grocery shopping as directed by the House Manager.
- Provide transportation with company vehicles for self‑help, employment, doctor visits and any other approved locations by the House Manager.
- Member of the agency’s safety committee.

- Is trustworthy in safeguarding confidential information.
- Adheres to Access's Employee Handbook, Confidentiality, and all applicable policies and protocols.
- Ability to handle sensitive and challenging situations with tact and discretion.
- Ability to provide culturally competent support.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to be supportive in a team effort.
- When applicable, maintains current NYS license(s) and/or credentials.
- High School Diploma or equivalency at minimum.
- Previous experience working with substance use population preferred.
- CASAC highly preferred.
