Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations—including Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York. The purpose of the role is to perform patient care activities and non‑professional services, addressing the personal, physical, and emotional needs of the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patient and family.

Practice must be consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Medical Center administration.

Education & Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • AHA BLS provider certification course required within 90 days from date of hire.
  • Minimum of three (3) months experience as a PCT or currently in a junior semester of an Associates or Bachelor’s nursing program.

Requirements
  • General knowledge of high school subject matter including sciences, simple medical procedures/terminology, and office equipment.
  • BLS certification required 90 days from date of hire.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Assists in the delivery of patient care by performing specific patient care tasks per scope of service and as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges and transport of patients.
  • Obtains and records temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weights, and blood glucose testing. Reports abnormalities and condition changes to primary nurse promptly.
  • Demonstrates competence in advanced skills to include, but not limited to: oral suctioning, enemas (no Fleets enemas), clean dressings after a RN assessment, tube feeding set-up, external catheter (condom catheter), post‑mortem care and suction canister set‑up.
  • Communicates effectively and frequently with health care team members to share information and solve problems in a positive and result‑oriented manner, both verbally and electronically.
  • Documents legibly on all hospital forms using standardized abbreviations and transmits required reports at shift changes.
  • Provides personalized care to patients and families and identifies and documents special needs on the patient rounding sheet.
  • Utilizes educational materials, programs, nursing literature and resource personnel for career development and attends mandatory in‑services to maintain unit competencies.
  • Uses material, equipment and time in a safe, therapeutic and cost‑effective manner.
  • Assists with appropriate tasks in all code situations under the direction of the Code Blue Team.
  • Adheres to organizational infection control practices, policies and safety and security policies, including using two identifiers whenever taking blood samples or performing any procedure.
  • Assists with maintaining the general cleanliness and appearance of unit areas, including cleaning treatment rooms, showers, commodes, IV poles, kitchens and staff lounge as requested.
  • Maintains and models REACH values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).
  • Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity.
Occupational: some occupational risk.
Physical effort: very heavy effort, may exert up to 50 lbs.
Physical environment: significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
