Location: Poughkeepsie, NY
Salary Range: $55,000–$65,000
Work Schedule: 100% On-Site
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a hospital and its affiliated entities. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with GAAP and plays an integral role in the monthly close, reporting, and analysis. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative finance team.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupport month-end and year-end close processes for multiple legal entities, including participation in close review meetings
Maintain general ledger accuracy, balance sheet reconciliations, and audit-ready work papers
Prepare both recurring and non-routine journal entries, including accruals and prepaid expense activity
Assist with internal and external reporting requirements such as financial surveys, IRS filings, cost reporting, and cash assessments
Contribute to budget preparation, ICR reporting, and financial planning activities
Compile and maintain schedules supporting annual tax filings (Forms 990, 1120, CHAR
500)Prepare the Consolidated Fiscal Report for Special Needs Preschool programs
Analyze monthly expense trends and FTE budget variances, identifying notable fluctuations
Track and reconcile capital leases and debt-related accounts
Maintain schedules for fixed assets, including additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations
Partner with hospital leadership and department heads to address accounting and reporting inquiries
Maintain financial data tables, interfaces, and system inputs
Reconcile daily cash activity and bank statements, ensuring alignment with the general ledger
Prepare weekly cash disbursement summaries
Escalate unresolved issues appropriately and assist with ad hoc projects as needed
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
3–5 years of accounting experience
Healthcare or multi-entity accounting experience preferred but not required
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
