Job Description:

Dutchess Community College is seeking a part-time High School Equivalency (HSE) Credit Free Instructor for the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), Introduction to Carpentry Skills course.

* The HSE NCCER Credit Free Construction Instructor will teach the NCCER curriculum.

* Be certified as an OSHA certified Instructor.

* Manage the renovation, rehabilitation, or construction of affordable housing units and the onsite construction training of young people.

* Prepare reports for NCCER certification and provide data to the Data Specialist.

* Develop construction plans and work schedules.

* Communicate with subcontractors and inspectors.

* Coordinate and monitor the progress and quality of the projects.

* Develop construction budgets and monitor costs.

* Manage bid process and coordinate subcontractors.

* Order materials/supplies, monitor inventory.

* Define weekly work assignments and priorities for construction trainers and trainees.

* Provide oversight on site, set standards for behavior and ensure worksite safety.

* Oversee and support the Construction Assistant

* Keep the Executive Director informed of the progress, problems and needs of the on-site construction work and training.

* Coordinate with the Job Developer to identify trainee's career goals.

* Assess potential construction sites/projects.

* Support youth leadership development and counseling goals of the program through appropriate site activities and processes.

* Attend weekly staff meetings.

* Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

* Contractor's license with demonstrated experience in construction management preferred.

* Experience and ability to teach basic construction math.

* Ability to work in an enthusiastic and encouraging way with young people who have not completed high school.

* Understanding of the issues facing young people who have not completed high school.

* Interest in training young people in building trades and the development of leadership skills.

* Ability to work as part of a team.

* Strong communication skills.

* Reports to Nubian Directions, Inc. Executive Director and Dutchess Community College HSE Coordinator.
