Medical Billing Manager

Location: In-office (with partial WFH after initial training)

Salary Range: $80,000–$90,000

Hours: Flexible, e.g., 7–3 or 9–5

We are seeking an experienced Billing Manager to serve as a senior, hands-on billing expert. This role focuses on high-level medical billing operations, oversight of the billing system, and coordination with third-party billing partners. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly knowledgeable in medical billing workflows, and comfortable managing complex claims, denials, and payer communications.

This role is less focused on staff management and more on ensuring accurate, compliant, and efficient billing processes.

• Serve as the primary internal expert for medical billing operations across the practice
• Oversee and optimize billing workflows within the practice management system, including system setup, maintenance, and process improvements
• Act as the main point of contact with third-party billing vendors, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and performance
• Monitor and manage complex claim denials, including root-cause analysis, appeals, and resolution
• Review billing reports, A/R trends, and KPIs to identify issues and recommend improvements
• Ensure accurate charge capture, coding validation, and timely claim submission
• Maintain compliance with payer requirements, Medicare/Medicaid guidelines, and healthcare regulations
• Collaborate with leadership to support billing system transitions, updates, and enhancements
• Assist with payer communications, contract-related billing issues, and reimbursement discrepancies
• Support internal teams by providing guidance and troubleshooting billing-related issues as needed

• Minimum of 5+ years of medical billing experience
  , preferably in a multi-specialty or physician practice setting
• Strong working knowledge of practice management/billing systems (experience with Athena One highly preferred)
• Proven experience handling complex claims, denials, and payer escalations
• Experience working with or overseeing third-party billing companies
• Solid understanding of medical billing regulations, insurance plans, and reimbursement methodologies
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of billing outcomes
