Billing Manager

About the Role

The Billing Manager will serve as the primary internal billing expert for the organization. This role is less about supervising a large team and more about providing high-level oversight, troubleshooting complex billing issues, and ensuring smooth revenue cycle operations.

You will play a critical role in optimizing workflows, managing denials and payer escalations, and acting as the liaison between internal teams and external billing partners.

• Serve as the primary internal expert for all medical billing operations
• Oversee and optimize billing workflows within Athena One
• Manage system setup, maintenance, and continuous process improvements
• Act as the main point of contact with third-party billing vendors
• Monitor and resolve complex claim denials and payer escalations
• Perform root-cause analysis and manage appeals processes
• Review A/R trends, billing reports, and KPIs to identify improvement opportunities
• Ensure accurate charge capture and timely claim submission
• Maintain compliance with payer requirements and healthcare regulations
• Collaborate with leadership on billing system transitions and enhancements
• Assist with payer communications and reimbursement discrepancies
• Provide guidance and troubleshooting support to internal staff

Must Haves:

• 5+ years of medical billing experience
• Proven experience handling complex claims, denials, and payer escalations
• Experience working with third-party billing companies
• Strong understanding of medical billing regulations and reimbursement methodologies
• High attention to detail with excellent analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of billing outcomes

Highly Preferred:

• Experience with Athena One billing system

Education:

• Relevant certifications in medical billing or revenue cycle management are a plus
