Summary
The Certified Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications to designated residents in a safe and organized manner. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with medications, documentation of medication assistance, and resident care. The Certified Medication Technician must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with the resident, the resident’s family, and all team members.
She/he must be able to observe and report changes in the resident’s physical condition or behavior. She/he also carries out all other duties of a Resident Assistant.
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure that the attainment of Victory Housing, Inc. Mission Statement takes precedence over all decisions and actions.
- Adhere to all Victory Housing policies and procedures, COMAR 10.07.14 regulations, and all applicable County, State, and Federal guidelines including DOH, CDC, CMS, and OSHA.
- Implement universal precautions and infectious disease control protocols at all times. Wear assigned PPE appropriately per policy and as requested.
- Complete all assigned training, including initial orientation, COMAR 10.07.14 requirements, monthly in-services, HIPAA, and other required modules. Participate in safety and disaster drills as assigned and mandated.
- Coordinate with Registered Nurse/LPN on all matters related to the Clinical Program and Medication Delivery System.
- Read and document pertinent information in the Communication Log regarding Resident updates, status changes, and observations.
- Administer medications and treatments using the EMAR platform, ensuring correct resident, route, charting, and medication expiration.
- Bring medications to residents in appropriate locations, maintaining confidentiality and following safety protocols.
- Check resident photo or ask name prior to medication administration.
- Offer water, juice, or apple sauce as prescribed, and observe swallowing.
- Document medication administration in EMR or on paper if the system is down.
- Report and document refusal of medication immediately.
- Return and lock non-dispensed medications after administration.
- Wash hands before and after medication pass, adhering to universal precautions.
- Prepare medications for short-term absences and maintain medication cart and Wellness Center cleanliness.
- Assist with narcotics count and report discrepancies.
- Assist with Resident care, including after falls, bathing, toileting, or emergencies.
- Complete incident reports as needed.
- Promote dignity and quality of care for Residents.
- Communicate with the clinical team regarding health and wellness issues.
- Serve meals with attention to hospitality and safety, assisting residents as needed.
- Follow safety procedures during lifting, transferring, fire, and disaster situations.
- Maintain good public relations and team support.
- Attend staff meetings and training, respond promptly to help and call bells, and perform other tasks as assigned.
Must be current on all vaccinations, including COVID-19 and CDC-recommended booster doses.
