SUMMARY OF POSITION
:
Assist in surface preparation, mixing of paint, application of coating, striping, and clean up. Position requires willingness to learn, and the ability to follow directions concerning painting in the marine industry. May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.
Job Requirements
- Ensure surfaces are prepared for coating according to paint manufacturers’ specifications.
- Paint surfaces using approved methods and mix paint as directed.
- Strip plating tanks in a productive and timely manner.
- Work within OSHA requirements relative to the shipbuilding industry.
- Comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- Accurately operate, clean, and maintain all assigned equipment; properly store equipment.
- Dispose of empty paint and solvent cans appropriately; take appropriate precautions for paint and solvents.
- Know how to check wet film thickness (WFT) being applied and assist sprayers in pulling lines.
- Follow directions promptly and correctly; may be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Required ExperienceFormal or informal on‑the‑job training and two years of experience in the application of coatings in the marine industry.
Required SkillsAbility to take direction; work cooperatively and productively with other employees and shipyard personnel.
Physical RequirementsRegularly required to walk; frequently to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or crawl at various heights and in confined spaces; occasionally to sit; reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel, grip, or handle; regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds; use vision for up close, distance, and peripheral viewing including low‑light conditions; may be required to wear a respirator;
must be clean‑shaven.
Must be able to carry out simple directions in a safe, timely, and productive manner.

Working ConditionsRegular exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces, precarious places, close proximity to other employees.
PPE and OvertimePersonal protective equipment (PPE) required such as safety clothing and devices to protect personnel from bodily harm. Overtime or shift work involved most of the time. Travel often required.
