Job SummaryThe Lab Manager oversees all aspects of laboratory services for the clinical laboratory at designated sites. They coordinate with other hospital services to support patient care activities, drive performance‑improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance is a key priority.
Essential Functions- Improves laboratory operations and establishes objectives related to quality metrics; monitors quality indicators to identify opportunities for improvement and submits monthly reports.
- Manages the laboratory department, including hiring, staffing, scheduling and onboarding of new employees to meet laboratory service requirements, productivity goals, and staffing budget.
- Evaluates department staff performance and completes performance assessments with input from Lead Technologists or Supervisors.
- Facilitates regional laboratory committees and coordinates activities for completion of projects and implementation of new procedures.
- Monitors laboratory expenses to meet budgetary goals, participates in forecasting, planning, and budgeting, and collaborates with other management team members on capital replacement and acquisition plans.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry (required).
- Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or ASCP Certification (required).
- 5 years of experience in a laboratory tech setting (required).
- Previous experience in a leadership position in a laboratory tech environment (required).
- Demonstrates leadership competencies and skills, including excellent communication, customer service, continuous quality improvement, relationship development, and decision making.
- Possesses extensive knowledge of clinical practice or function and a thorough understanding of the organization and work environment.
