Position: CHEMIST with Security Clearance
Duties
* You will provide technical guidance to subordinates by assigning work based on consideration of priorities, difficulty, requirements, and capabilities of the individuals.
* You will direct work, set priorities and deadlines, and review completed work for adequacy.
* You will prepare and submit narrative reports on work requiring reports to activities within the shipyard.
* You will actively support the laboratory's total quality control programs, ensuring that all gases consistently meet the required purity per specification for quality control of the aircraft and usage of flight operations. Requirements Conditions of employment

* This is a bargaining unit position.
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
* Experience applying practical knowledge of chemistry and mastery of analytical techniques/test procedures and methodologies.
* Experience utilizing chemical or material principal theories and practices in the use of instruments and apparatuses sufficient to perform analyses and in some cases develop new methods and procedures.
* Experience performing industrial plant operations and maintenance processes.
* Experience understanding the identification and quantification of trace level gaseous contaminants and the ability to assist program Senior analysts in determining impurities/contamination.
* Experience utilizing chemical symbols and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy as it relates to specific contaminants.
* Experience applying Navy regulations, instructions, standards and requirements of design, rework, and maintenance of aeronautical equipment as processes to satisfy these requirements is required.
* Experience evaluating quality control testing criteria and adapting to the use of instrumentation used to obtain valid results and resolve very complex sensitive problems related to quality assurance and applying new developments and methodologies to assigned program areas.
* Experience applying standard test methods and techniques; adapting precedents or making significant departures from previous approaches to similar tests to provide for the specialized testing requirements to support program objectives; and adhering to laboratory standards, policies, and procedures. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education
* Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
* Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
