Responsibilities
- Perform advanced physio therapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.
- Hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision.
- Participate in on‑call and emergency rotas, undertaking assessment and treatment of acutely ill patients.
- Supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students, and undertake evidence‑based audit and research projects to further own and teams’ practice within the department.
- Manage patients as per legal and professional accountability, including comprehensive assessment, formulation and delivery of an individual treatment programme, gaining valid informed consent and keeping accurate, legible records of patient care in line with service guidelines.
- Communicate other agencies/disciplines within Portsmouth Health and Social Care settings, and communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff.
- Ensure timely and effective communication with Team Leader and other senior staff on all professional matters.
- Be responsible for training students on clinical placement, and participate in IST and post registration education programme.
Senior role requires specialist physiotherapist support available if required, and supervision through regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences.

Across Hampshire, our community hospitals provide inpatient rehabilitation as a step down from acute care, and our dedicated teams also staff Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Portsmouth, offering expert, compassionate support.
