Overview
Portsmouth School of Law is seeking to appoint a full‑time Teaching Fellow or Senior Teaching Fellow to contribute to teaching and learning across the School, with a particular emphasis on professional skills development. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering our new Professional Legal Practice LLM and supporting students preparing for professional qualifications such as the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) and the CILEx Professional Qualification (Professional Stage).
CandidateProfile
We are seeking candidates with the ability to support students across both SQE 1 and SQE 2 subject areas. The successful candidate will demonstrate specialist expertise in teaching both substantive legal knowledge and professional legal skills, including oral and written skills, in at least one of the following SQE practice areas:
SQE Practice Areas- Property Law and Practice
- Wills and Estate Administration
- Dispute Resolution and Civil Litigation
- Criminal Litigation
- Business Law and Practice
The post holder will play a key role in the design, delivery and assessment of professionally oriented postgraduate modules aligned with the SQE, and in supporting students to develop the knowledge, skills and professional competencies required for legal practice. The successful candidate may also, where appropriate, contribute to broader law teaching within the School, and may be expected to supervise students in the School’s General Legal Advice Clinic, supporting experiential learning and ensuring high standards of professional practice.
QualificationsDepending on the role applied for, applicants should have experience within the legal profession and/or experience teaching professional legal courses (such as SQE, LPC, BPTC, or CILEX); role‑specific expectations are set out in the essential criteria. We are looking for candidates with a strong commitment to high‑quality, practice‑informed teaching, student support, and innovative approaches to skills‑based legal education.
Additional DutiesThe post holder will be expected to contribute to module leadership, assessment and academic administration, and to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure an excellent student experience on our professional courses and modules.
