Job Summary and Qualifications1.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The RN demonstrates independence in planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with the NH Nurse Practice Act, recognized nursing techniques, clinical and administrative policies. Maintains current knowledge in area(s) of cardiac cath lab. Under the direction of the Director of Cardiac Cath lab determine staffing requirements, interview and hire personnel for department, conduct yearly performance appraisal for all staff, participate in QI process improvement efforts.
Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care. Provide leadership in compliance with applicable JCAHO standards and safety standards, and provide leadership in growth and development of new services in area(s) of Cath Lab.
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS &
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A. Observation Area
1. Provide assessment and care of the patient undergoing transesophageal echo (TEE), cardioversions and other cardiac procedures with appropriate competency completion.
2. Recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system
4. Provide safe medication administration for the cardiac patient
5. Utilizes appropriate hand off of care amongst healthcare givers
6. Provide education and discharge planning to patient/family.
B. Cardiac Cath Lab
1. Provide assessment and care of the patient undergoing cardiac and vascular procedures included but not limited to percutaneous coronary intervention (PTCI) as well as percutaneous vascular intervention under moderate sedation
2. Recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies during procedure
3. Demonstrates knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system
4. Provide safe medication administration for the cardiac patient
5. Utilizes appropriate hand off of care amongst healthcare givers
6. Adheres to department standards for documenting patient care
7. Provide education and discharge planning to patient/family.
C. Holding Area
1. Provides assessment and care on both pre and post procedure cardiac/vascular patients
2. Recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies pre and post procedure
3. Demonstrates knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system
4. Provide safe medication administration for the cardiac patient
5. Utilizes appropriate hand off of care amongst healthcare givers
6. Adheres to department standards for documenting patient care
7. Provide education and discharge planning to patient/family
D. Leadership Responsibilities
Assists Director with:
a. Competency adherence for all staff
b. Assists with evaluation of performance both professional and clinical as outlined in Performance Management Plan (PMP) for all staff
c. Assists with necessary action plan(s) based on department standard of care for all staff
d. Monitor Cardiac Catheterization Lab activities on an ongoing basis to identify and resolve problems related to patient/family care in the most expeditious fashion (conflict management)
e. Review monthly statistics with Director for opportunities to improve and work towards meeting expectations as outlined in Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers & Systems (HCAHPS) with maximum staff involvement
