Job Summary and Qualifications

The RN demonstrates independence in planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with the NH Nurse Practice Act, recognized nursing techniques, and clinical and administrative policies. Maintains current knowledge in the area(s) of the cardiac cath lab. Under the direction of the Director of Cardiac Cath Lab, determine staffing requirements, interview and hire personnel for the department, conduct yearly performance appraisal for all staff, and participate in QI process improvement efforts.

Works cooperatively within the department and other services to create a system of quality health care. Provides leadership in compliance with applicable JCAHO standards and safety standards, and leadership in growth and development of new services in the Cath Lab area.

Specific Elements &

Essential Functions:

  • Observation Area
  • Provide assessment and care of the patient undergoing transesophageal echo (TEE), cardioversions, and other cardiac procedures with appropriate competency completion
  • Recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies
  • Demonstrates knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system
  • Provide safe medication administration for the cardiac patient
  • Utilizes appropriate hand off of care amongst healthcare givers
  • Provide education and discharge planning to patient/family
  • Cardiac Cath Lab duties include assessment and care of patients undergoing cardiac and vascular procedures (e.g., PCI and other vascular interventions) under moderate sedation
  • Recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies during procedures
  • Adheres to department standards for documenting patient care
  • Provide education and discharge planning to patient/family
  • Holding Area: assessment and care on pre- and post-procedure cardiac/vascular patients
  • Recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies pre and post procedure

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Assist Director with competency adherence for all staff
  • Assist with evaluation of performance (professional and clinical) per PMP for all staff
  • Assist with action plans based on department standard of care for all staff
  • Monitor Cardiac Catheterization Lab activities to identify and resolve problems related to patient/family care (conflict management)
  • Review monthly statistics with Director for opportunities to improve and align with HCAHPS expectations with maximum staff involvement
  • Organize staffing functions (call, scheduling, interviewing and hiring)
  • Organize department data collection processes
  • Organize department quality initiatives
  • Assist in the development of process improvement for the department
  • Focus on personal/professional development by attending at least one leadership class annually, maintaining membership with professional organizations, and/or attainment of advanced certification

Qualifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • RN licensed in New Hampshire or valid compact licensure
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • 3-7 years related experience required
