Overview

We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to support our Women's Health Center team located at 67 Corporate Drive in Portsmouth, NH. The schedule is Monday–Friday 8:00am–5:00pm.

This is a fairly large practice with 12 providers supported by 6 MAs. The team is looking for someone who is proactive, works well as a team player, and shows initiative in completing tasks independently while supporting the overall flow of the practice. You may be asked to float to other departments in the WHP system when appropriate and needed for cross-coverage purposes.

Responsibilities

The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

  • Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight and height, and record information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients; order and organize educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a patient-first service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competent.
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates; provide immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience and supervision of a provider.
  • Support quality initiatives (e.g., two patient identifiers and hand hygiene) to improve departmental performance.
Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required;
Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.

Experience

Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work 1–2 years required.

Licenses and Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred;
Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) - Data Conversion preferred.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to prioritize tasks in complex environments; accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Comply with all privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
  • Ability to take vital signs and manual blood pressure, collect blood samples and other specimens.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols; proficiency with EHR systems and medical office software.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving; time management.
Strongly Preferred
  • Medical Assistant course or diploma program, or a minimum of 1 year professional experience.
  • National MA Certification via AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT.
  • Epic experience; ambulatory/outpatient experience.
