Provides technical assistance to physician/registered nurse during surgical procedures. The surgical technologist functions in the role of Certified Surgical Technician First Assistant after meeting credentialing criteria and carries out functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The CSTFA practices under the supervision of the surgeon during the first assisting phase of the intraoperative role.

The CSTFA does not function concurrently as a scrub during the CSTFA component of surgical patient care. The CSTFA also functions, when not first assisting, in the surgical technologist role.

Position Responsibilities for the surgical technologist:
Works collaboratively with Registered Nurse to prepare patients for surgical procedures to include all specialties. The Surgical Technologist scrubs for the surgical procedures and performs a variety of other duties related to the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment. Maintains inventory of necessary equipment and supplies.

• Vocational School Graduate
• (CSA) Certified Surgical Assistant, or (CST) Certified Surgical Technologist, or (CSFA) Certified Surgical First Assistant
• 1‑3 years of related experience
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Medical Technologist
