Job Description

The Transportation mechanic position has one primary function: safety. Our first and foremost priority is to ensure that our trucks are maintained to the highest standards. This includes the requirement that we are well-versed in all FMCSA rules, regulations, and procedures, and that we document our compliance with these rules adequately.

Operational Expectations
  • Complete familiarity with FMCSA regulations as they pertain to maintenance; compliance measured by CSA scores for Vehicle Maintenance.
  • Out-of-service and out-of-compliance issues from roadside inspections used to measure performance.
  • Clear lines of communication between drivers, shop, and management to respond appropriately to mechanical issues.
  • First leg of maintenance: scheduled maintenance with service intervals, lubrication policy, and inspection schedule laid out in RTA Maintenance Software.
  • Second leg: driver-discovered issues addressed via a robust electronic DVIR reporting and response protocol.
  • Third leg: maintenance personnel responsible for inspecting and repairing defects that could cause vehicles to break down or become unsafe; maintain skill level through vendor training, Oregon Trucking Association, and other sources; train new employees on proper inspection, diagnosis, and repair.
  • Team building: recognize that drivers are primary stakeholders; shop takes the lead in addressing maintenance issues and ensuring any vehicle they operate is safe.
Administrative Expectations
  • All maintenance records must be complete, timely, and accurate; work orders and time records turned in daily at the end of each shift.
  • Parts ordering, receiving, and usage must get the best parts at the best price; all inventory records maintained and reconciled periodically.
  • Outsourcing work to other shops may be necessary; notify supervisor when work may need outsourcing to use skills better and keep fleet inspected regularly.
  • General mechanical: brakes, suspension, services, light electrical, tires, and troubleshooting.
  • Mechanics will possess a set of basic mechanic tools to work on Class A trucks.
  • Work schedule:

    Thursday-Monday 2PM-10PM.
