Scope Of PositionThe Sports and Fitness Coordinator is responsible for supervising, teaching, developing, scheduling, and training in the Sports and Fitness Department at The Moore Street Community Center in Portland, OR.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
Required:
Use a computer effectively and efficiently in the working environment; use standard office machines (e.g., fax, copier, multi-line telephone, keyboard); use standard office practices and procedures; read, write, and speak the English language to express ideas and communicate effectively.
Skill
Required:
Use Microsoft software (primarily Outlook, Word and Excel; occasionally Publisher and PowerPoint) to correctly create basic documents (notes, memos, emails) and reports; use of various types of sports equipment.
Ability
Required:
Interact with individuals using generally accepted business behaviors and standards; use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations; respond appropriately to emergency situations; train, plan, and direct the work of others; organize, prioritize, and plan own work; multitask, i.e., change work focus or respond to change of conditions and interruptions in work flow; learn new systems and procedures;

- Recruit, hire, schedule, and supervise fitness staff.
- Oversee and coordinate all group exercise, personal training, educational programs, and fitness classes.
- Coordinate, train, and supervise volunteers.
- Plan, organize, and implement staff training.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for all direct report staff.
- In cooperation with the Director of Operations, develop an annual sports and fitness budget and maintain strict adherence to that budget.
- Conduct regular inventory of all equipment and supplies, order replacements as necessary.
- Work with the marketing department to develop promotional materials and promote programs in and around the community.
- Complete applicable reports and maintain accurate records; ensure liability waivers are on file for all participant's.
- Develop and implement sports and fitness programming including sports leagues.
- Develop new programming based off community needs and trends.
- Ensure certified training staff to maintain group exercise and sports programs as needed.
- Must be willing to fill in when necessary to maintain scheduled programing.
- Conduct participant questionnaires to assess program successes and deficiencies.
- Work with the team to coordinate special events within Moore Streets Community Center.
- Handle disputes among customers, participants, and staff.
