OHSU Casey Eye Institute Community Outreach Program brings critical eye care directly to communities across Oregon that face barriers to access. As part of our donor‑funded mission to end preventable blindness, our Mobile Health Units function as fully equipped eye clinics on wheels, and drivers are essential to making that care possible.
In this role, you will safely operate and support the setup of Mobile Health Units while working closely with outreach and clinical staff to ensure each community event runs smoothly. Every mile you drive helps deliver life‑changing vision care to individuals and families who might otherwise go without.
You will be part of a nationally recognized eye institute known for excellence, compassion, and community impact. Your work directly supports preserving sight and improving lives across Oregon.
Schedule: Generally Saturdays and/or Sundays, one to two times per month

Pay Range: $20.77 - 27.69 per hour, Commensurate with Experience. Weekend differential and flex differential available.
Mobile Health Unit Driving and Support Responsibilities- Safely drive and operate the Mobile Health Units throughout Oregon in compliance with all driving and safety laws
- Assist with basic setup and operation of the unit, including leveling, power, generator, HVAC, and shore power
- Help load, unload, and secure equipment and supplies to ensure safe transport
- Perform routine vehicle checks, report issues as needed, and help keep vehicles clean and ready for use
- Manage fueling and fuel card use
- Adjust routes and timing as needed due to traffic or weather conditions
- Provide basic troubleshooting support for vehicle systems and lifts
- Assist with powering electrical systems on and off at the start and end of events
- Install snow chains when needed during winter travel
- Follow all OHSU and departmental vehicle and safety policies
- Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
- Help set up and break down the Mobile Health Unit and interior clinic equipment
- Support volunteers with setting up screening stations and clinic flow
- Assist participants entering and exiting the Mobile Health Unit as needed
- Serve as a professional, welcoming representative of the outreach program
- Help ensure volunteers and participants have a positive, smooth clinic experience
- Assist with light cleaning of the unit before and after events
Other duties may be assigned by program staff or clinicians on site.
Required QualificationsProfessional
Experience:
6 months of professional driving experience using vehicles such as sedans, vans, and box trucks. Current Driver’s license and driving record that meets OHSU’s driving requirements. Basic computer skills and familiarity with MS Office.
Education: High School or GED equivalent.
Skills:
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team with great accuracy and efficiency. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and complete projects independently.
- Ability to work with diverse individuals including volunteers, medical professionals, students, underserved populations, patients, and community partners.
- Ability to operate and communicate effectively and professionally.
- Experience driving large vehicles and/or RVs.
- Experience in community outreach, working with schools and/or health care agencies.
- Experience working with volunteers, and/or community service/engagement.
- Commercial Driver’s License.
