Overview

The Water Resource Recovery Operations and Services department is seeking an Electrician
2. This position installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains electrical and electronic systems and equipment. The essential functions listed below are not intended to reflect all duties that may be assigned to this classification. The District may augment duties and/or essential functions at its discretion. Additionally, some incumbents may not perform all Essential Functions.

Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, modify, and repair power distribution systems, including transformers, power distribution panels, power services, and circuit breakers; electrical equipment associated with pumping systems, including motors, variable frequency drives, generators, switches, motor control centers, and filters; and plant electrical heating and lighting systems. Based on assessment of cost effectiveness, recommend repair vs. replacement, in-house vs. out-sourced repair.
  • Complete maintenance and repair records using an electronic maintenance management system. Requisition and/or purchase parts, tools, materials, and equipment as needed.
  • Lead the work of maintenance personnel assigned to large and/or complex electrical/electronic projects; check work for compliance with electrical codes and District standards; provide feedback to supervisor as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:
  • Methods, materials, tools, and testing equipment of the electrical trade
  • Advanced electrical principles, formulas, and practices for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic industrial equipment, parts, machinery, and control circuits including equipment that is de-energized and energized
  • The Oregon Electrical Specialty Code, National Electric Code (NEC), and local electrical codes
  • Pertinent safety practices and procedures
  • Requisition and purchasing procedures and practices
Skill in:
  • Diagnosing and determining the best method to repair major electrical problems in industrial settings
  • Installation using technical drawings and specifications
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Identifying energized conductors
  • Programming, installing, and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Estimating and scheduling work
  • Maintaining accurate and complete maintenance records
  • Use of electronic and electrical testing equipment
  • Use of computers and computer software for scheduling work and for office applications
  • Training, scheduling, and evaluating the work of other maintenance personnel
Ability to:
  • Read, review and interpret electrical engineering blueprints, diagrams, specifications, and manuals
  • Plan testing procedures
  • Determine the proper kind and type of parts and equipment needed for system installation and repair including de-energized and energized equipment
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Operate effectively in a team environment
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required KSAs would be:

2+ years of experience in installing, modifying, repairing, and servicing industrial electrical and electronic systems including repairing, testing, and troubleshooting energized and de-energized electrical components.

Certification and Licensure Requirements

Upon selection, candidate must possess and maintain a valid State issued driver's license. Must possess a State of Oregon Limited Journeyman Manufacturing Plant Electrician License or higher.
