Essential Functions And Major ResponsibilitiesThis list is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities. The employee may work as an individual, as a member of a single craft, or in a multi-craft work crew.
- Complies with craft and shipyard safety measures.
- Responsible for assembling staging as directed.
- Works from ship specifications, work orders and applicable working drawings and blueprints.
- Converse in and apply knowledge of quality assurance requirements.
- Responsible for installation of various types of insulation.
- Reads blueprints and performs layout work.
- Performs joiner work and installs marine panels, ceiling systems, doors, and jams.
- Performs similar work in all areas of the Yard as needed.
Skills And Abilities
- Communicates effectively, works independently or in a group.
- Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
- Working knowledge of processes such as fiberglass repair procedures, building pudding blocks, blast protection installation and repair of furniture and fixtures.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- 2 years relevant work experience.
- Proven skills:
Work history and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience.
Proficient in both Fire Watch and Associate 1 job duties. Trains and assists with erecting and dismantling staging. Assists with and/or performs basic pipe bolting under the direction of a Journey Level employee or Supervisor. May perform Associate 1 or Fire Watch duties. Must acquire three (3) additional Ship Repair Skills to progress to the next level.
Certificates, Licenses And Registrations- Four-hour fire watch certification, to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- HAZWOPER – First Responder Awareness Level.
- Sitting, standing, walking, crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting, climbing, balancing, leg/foot use to repetitively operate machine controls, reaching, handling/grasping, fingering/feeling, pushing/pulling, and lifting/carrying.
- Talking, hearing, vision, near and far acuity, depth perception, field of vision, and sense of smell.
- Interaction with others to coordinate work effort and ensure safety.
- Works alone or with others depending on task.
- Directs/supervises others is not required.
- Repetitive tasks and attention to detail when using power tools for safety.
- Flexibility to adapt plans as needed.
- Works indoors and outdoors; may construct scaffolding; safety equipment required: hard hat, eye protection, safety harness, hearing protection, and respirator.
- May be exposed to smoke, fumes, silica, asbestos, dust, oil, grease, and heights.
- Operation of equipment/tools: table saw, band saw, planer, jointer, wood lathe, drill press, sanders, tape measure, overhead crane, forklift, and various hand tools.
- Hygiene standards: per company standards.
