About This Role

Fiber Tel is looking for Travel CDL Construction Worker/Laborers for our Portland location. This is a travel position with job sites in OR, WA, and  this role, you will support all phases of utility construction for various telecom projects. Duties include general labor related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Foreman/Supervisor. Services may include placing poles, anchors, aerial strand and cable, direct buried pipe, trenching cable, conventional and directional boring, placing underground conduit systems, performing inside wiring, cabling, and testing and maintenance services.

Pay: $20-27/hr, plus daily per diem and travel accommodations.

Responsibilities
  • Hand dig using a shovel and mechanical tools
  • Installation and maintenance of underground telecommunications cabling
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Work in congested or remote areas
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with other crew members and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination
  • Perform general construction work under the direction of the Foreman/Supervisor
  • Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to regulations, procedures, and policies
  • Learn all aspects of the crew and assist the operator and foreman as assigned
  • Set up, preparation, and cleanup of construction sites
  • Develop an understanding of buried utilities
  • Lift heavy equipment and supplies
Qualifications What You ll Bring
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license
  • A good driving record is required
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment safely
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment safely
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry
  • Able to perform all duties in telecommunication construction
  • Ability to travel
Working Conditions

This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. The role operates outdoors and is regularly exposed to weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The environment varies in terrain, traffic, urban and rural settings. Occasional exposure to natural gas and risk of electrical shock, with moderate to loud noise levels.

Physical Requirements

The employee must stand for long periods (up to 12 hours), tolerate extreme weather, follow safety instructions, and perform repeated lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling. Regularly lift up to 75 pounds with required vision capabilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
