Camp Maintenance Technician-Camp Hancock

The Camp Maintenance Technician is an essential community member of passionate educators and learners. To support a positive work and education environment, the Camp Maintenance Technician, working under the direction of the Hancock Field Station Manager, provides effective care, repair, and maintenance of camp buildings, grounds, and equipment at Hancock Field Station outside Fossil, Oregon.

• Recognizes, mitigates, and responds to hazards to ensure a healthy and safe program for all participants;
• Provides general maintenance, including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and gas/electric appliances and systems for all camp buildings including staff housing;
• Implements preventative maintenance system checks of fire/safety equipment and utility systems, and seasonal tasks such as general landscaping and invasive weed mitigation;
• Performs staff housing maintenance/improvements such as but not limited to, basic plumbing, electrical, and home repair such as painting interior and exterior surfaces;
• Camp Maintenance:
  Performs ongoing preventative maintenance and repairs on facility systems and equipment—including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, HVAC equipment, general carpentry needs, and general building repairs;
• Works with Maintenance team from OMSI at Water Avenue, Gray Camp Maintenance Technician, and local area partners, such as the National Park Service and Pine Creek Conservation area, to ensure site facility and utility system operation and safety;
• Maintains a clean and organized workspace, which includes the maintenance shop, mechanical rooms, and storage spaces;
• Leads seasonal camp maintenance needs such as winterizations of buildings in the late fall, restarting systems in early spring, and maintaining the fire line, as well as vegetation management, in the spring and throughout the summer;
• Maintains accurate records of all work and repairs done to the site in the FMX software and appropriate site documents;
• Safety Protocols and Procedures:
  Supports the compliance of Oregon state and county health codes, as well as American Camp Association standards, under the guidance of the Hancock Field Station Manager;
• Actively enforces OMSI’s Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) standards and protocol, and actively incorporates them into their work assignments, such as ladder safety, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and hazards, proper lifting techniques, and other applicable safety protocols;
• Performs facilities walkthroughs and conducts troubleshooting procedures, and elevates maintenance requests to Hancock Field Station Manager for assistance/direction on tasks beyond their level of knowledge as needed. Reports results of walk throughs to the site manager;
• Conduct regular, basic vehicle maintenance checks; and assist with staff safety maintenance and vehicle training.

• This position is non‑exempt, paid hourly;
• This position is regular full‑time scheduled for 40 hours/week;
  Requires working onsite at the camp location in Fossil, OR;
• Requires working on some weekends, holidays, and/or evenings;
• Requires 24‑hour on‑call duties for critical systems.

• 10% sitting, 50% standing, 40% lifting/carrying 50 lbs:
  Ability to stand and walk for 4 hours or more in a day while carrying tools;
• Requires crouching, bending, or stooping;
• Requires climbing, crawling, kneeling, and twisting;
• Requires navigation of uneven, rocky terrain, and gravel pathways on moderate hills.
