DoD Skill Bridge Fleet Mechanic - Diesel Technician

This position is a unique opportunity for active-duty service members eligible for the DoD Skill Bridge Internship. The role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fleet road equipment, including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. The mechanic will ensure compliance with all relevant trucking regulations, document repairs and maintenance logs, and perform road rescue duties as needed.

This internship is unpaid, non-benefit eligible, and in partnership with the DoD Skill Bridge program. Applicants must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace, and complete repairs on diesel equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance according to company standards.
  • Complete repair documentation and manage parts accountability.
  • Handle road service calls and perform road rescue operations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety regulations.
  • Manage inventory and recordkeeping.
  • Support other maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Willingness to assume increased responsibilities and certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications include:

    • At least 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty diesel or reefer mechanic, or 2 years with relevant certifications.
    • Diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to work independently with analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience in administering preventive maintenance programs.
    • Own personal hand tools.
    • CDL A and DOT certification preferred.
    • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations.
    • Ability to read technical manuals, communicate effectively, and manage multiple tasks.
    • Computer skills and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime.
