As a Lead Clerk, you will create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service, maintain a safe and clean store environment, and help achieve sales and profit goals. You will support day‑to‑day department operations, embody Kroger’s Customer 1st strategy, and demonstrate core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
Responsibilities- Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil codes.
- Provide a welcoming environment and answer questions about products sold within the department and throughout the store.
- Maintain knowledge of products and respond to customer inquiries and suggestions.
- Understand the store’s layout and locate products efficiently.
- Educate department associates about current, upcoming, and special promotions.
- Stay current with seasonal and special advertisements.
- Monitor inventory/stocking conditions and report discrepancies.
- Observe scheduled shift operating hours.
- Demonstrate creative merchandising and ensure merchandise is presented per company policy.
- Condition all products in assigned sections and understand cashier functions.
- Follow merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense, loss prevention, safety, and food safety rules.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Perform preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting needed repairs.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Report all safety risks, incidents, and illegal activity (e.g., robbery, theft, fraud).
- Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic math skills: counting, addition, and subtraction.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Physical ability to meet job demands.
- Must be 18 or older.
- Retail experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Second language proficiency (speaking, reading, or writing).
