The Retail Operations Supervisor shares responsibility to drive operational excellence while upholding Pet Smart’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. The role manages merchandising and inventory, pet care operations, opening/closing store, overseeing associates, and maintaining a safe, organized environment.
Essential Responsibilities People Leadership- Support and guide sales associates in merchandise handling, product knowledge, and presentation standards.
- Facilitate associate experience and support development through training, onboarding, mentoring, and coaching.
- Delegate and validate completion of daily tasks.
- Lead and direct associates when acting as the leader on duty.
- Address and administer associate complaints and grievances.
- Recognize and celebrate associates driving overall engagement.
- Execute merchandise strategies to optimize sales, including receiving, product placement, seasonal displays, and promotional setups.
- Manage inventory levels, conduct audits, and analyze sales trends for stock replenishment and markdowns.
- Operate point‑of‑sale systems and handle cash transactions with accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain store standards and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Share responsibility for store opening and closing procedures.
- Complete monthly live cycle counts and address discrepancies.
- Handle pet care maintenance, feeding, and other responsibilities for new, sick, or injured pets.
- Ensure pet parents have a positive experience with online orders, including pick‑up or ship‑from‑store.
- Transport seriously sick or injured pets to the vet as needed.
- 2+ years of retail supervisory experience in a customer‑focused environment.
- Full‑time availability with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Provide guidance and support for associate development (no direct reports).
- Give performance feedback to direct supervisor.
- Act as the leader when other leaders are not in the store.
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle, feel, hold, write, and use hands regularly.
- Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, occasionally more than 100 pounds.
- Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environment, pet hair, and moderate to high noise levels.
- Frequent handling of live animals.

Legal & Salary InformationThis position is paid on a per‑hour basis, and Pet Smart will not pay less than the local minimum wage. Exact pay will be based on relevant experience level, training, skills or knowledge, and store location.
