Research Scientist, Biomedical Science
e184 is a biotechnology research company with the mission of advancing in vitro gametogenesis to solve one of biology’s most profound challenges: returning the fundamental right to procreate.
We work at the frontier of cutting-edge technology, integrating cellular reprogramming, machine learning-guided optimization, multi-omics analysis, and automated experimental workflows to enable gamete development for individuals facing reproductive challenges.
Role overview:As a Scientist at e184, you will own high-throughput screening campaigns from end to end - designing experiments, executing them at the bench, analyzing results, and iterating to drive discovery. Reporting to the CSO, this is a high-impact, hands‑on role for an independent scientist who excels at translating experimental data into actionable insights in a well‑funded startup environment where your science directly enables breakthrough discovery.
What you’ll do:- Engineer reporter systems: Design, generate, and validate CRISPR‑based reporter lines and develop quantitative cellular assays hands‑on to enable robust phenotypic screening readouts.
- Own screening end‑to‑end: Design TF screening experiments (pooled and arrayed), construct screening libraries, execute experiments at the bench, and manage sample processing through hit validation.
- Drive the discovery cycle: Analyze screening data to identify hits, validate candidates through arrayed experiments, characterize mechanisms of action, and design next‑iteration screens.
- Collaborate across disciplines: Partner with bioinformaticians on experimental‑computational workflow integration and with biology experts to ensure screening readouts capture biologically meaningful phenotypes.
- PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related field
- Hands‑on high‑throughput screening experience (pooled and/or arrayed) with mammalian cells, including iPSCs
- Strong molecular biology foundation (cloning, plasmid design, library construction) and quantitative assay development
- Flow cytometry or high‑content imaging for cellular analysis
- You are reliable, adaptable, and ready to tackle occasional weekend maintenance to keep the science moving.
- Industry R&D experience in biotech or pharmaceutical settings
- Track record of end‑to‑end screening project ownership - from design through execution and validation
- Experience with high‑throughput automation or liquid handling
- Hands‑on sequencing experience (scRNA‑seq, ATAC‑seq) including library prep, plus proficiency with bioinformatics tools
- Immunofluorescence microscopy and imaging.
- Unrivaled impact :
Your work directly enables technology that transforms human fertility and reproductive medicine. - Full‑Spectrum growth :
Gain exposure to the entire lifecycle of discovery. From screening to mechanistic validation. - Best of both worlds :
Experience the creative chaos of an early‑stage startup with the stability of a well‑capitalized company. - Elite collaboratio n:
Work alongside a world‑class team who are as driven as you are.
- Competitive salary + equity participation is considered
- State‑of‑the‑art facility in Portland metro area
- Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k) with company match
