Department OverviewThe lab of Dr. Karen Tonsfeldt in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is recruiting for Research Assistant I. This supervised position will support ongoing studies into neuroendocrine control of reproduction using a mouse model. The duties involve mouse colony management, genotyping, behavioral testing, microscopy, and histology.
Function/Duties of Position- Assist with routine laboratory practices such as solution making, animal (rodent) handling and care, immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology. Must demonstrate laboratory animal practice consistent with approved protocols and regulations provided by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
- Must be able to keep detailed, meaningful records of performed tasks especially as it related to animal care and use.
- Prepare and maintain research protocols (animal, IBC, chemical safety, etc) and assist with data management, related to manuscript and grant formatting, and submission.
- Must be able to keep detailed, meaningful records of experimental protocols with excellent organizational skills.
- Order supplies and be responsible for maintaining lab inventory and general lab maintenance such as interaction with vendors when equipment repair is needed.
- Bachelor's Degree with major courses in field of research such as biological science field OR
- Associate's AND 3 years of relevant experience OR
- 4 years of relevant experience OR
- Equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Prior laboratory experience with basic skills including using pipettes, balance meter, and making solutions/dilutions.
- Excellent computer & organizational skills.
- Critical thinking skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal sciences, Neuroscience, or similar.
- Demonstrated experience supporting in vivo research with laboratory animals, molecular/cellular biology, animal physiology or endocrinology.
