Department Overview

The Moghaddam within the department of Behavioral Neuroscience is seeking a Research Assistant 2.

The primary responsibility of the RA2 is to support the general research activities of the Principal Investigator. The position will receive general supervision, provide primary support for the following functions: maintaining animal colonies in collaboration with DCM, preparing and maintaining all animal and research protocols; stereotaxic surgery, behavioral testing, microscopy and histology; data analysis; lab supply ordering; assisting with formatting manuscripts and research grants, assist with submission;

maintaining lab website. Must have flexible work hours.

Function/Duties of Position
  • Assist with routine laboratory maintenance such as solution making and ordering, and routine animal (rodent) training and care, histological preparation and microscopically verification of brain tissue.
  • Assist with experimental procedures such as stereotaxic surgery and behavioral training of rats.
  • Must demonstrate careful use of laboratory animals, consistent with approved protocols and regulations provided by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
  • Must be able to keep detailed, meaningful records of performed tasks especially as it related to animal care and use.
  • Prepare and maintain all research protocol (animal, IBC, Chemical safety, etc) and assist with data management, related to manuscript and grant formatting, and submission.
  • Must be able to keep detailed, meaningful records of experimental protocols.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to work with documents without omissions or errors.
  • Order supplies and be responsible for maintaining lab inventory and general lab maintenance such as interaction with vendors when equipment repair is needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in relevant field; OR
  • Associate's AND 3 years of relevant experience; OR
  • 4 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Prior laboratory experience with basic skills including using pipettes, balance meter, and making solutions/dilutions.
  • Excellent computer & organizational skills.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, mathematics, or biology.
  • Experience with programming.
  • Experience with handling rodents.
Additional Details

Monday - Friday, up to 8 hours per day. Some weekends may be necessary depending on behavioral experiment requirements.
