The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) supports plasma center operations and ensures compliance with relevant regulations.

What the role involvesEvery day, you will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational guidance and under the Center Physician for medical issues. You should be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment.
You will follow guidance from Bio Life Medical Affairs and provide center-level support of environmental, health and safety (EHS).
- Determine donor eligibility; manage informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions as they occur at the facility and follow applicable SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing Center Physician standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when there are unacceptable findings or guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
- Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation by occupational health/ER is required; refer to EHS guidance.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
- High school diploma or equivalent, including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned:
Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). - Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
- Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
- Satisfactorily complete the FDA-approved training requirements for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

USA - OR - Portland - Plasma. U.S. Hourly Wage Range: $36.96 - $50.82. The actual wage offered depends on qualifications, experience, skills, education, licensure, and location. Based on location, state or local minimum wage requirements apply. U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term incentives and a range of benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, disability coverage, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, volunteer time off, holidays, and well-being benefits.
