Overview

Nurse Assistant Training (Healthcare)

Responsibilities
  • Become familiar with the facility's administrative structure as introduced in the pre training orientation session.
  • Identify residents before administering treatments, serving meals, etc., using the wristband or photo card file.
  • Report all accidents and incidents observed on the shift as they occur.
  • Use only authorized abbreviations established by this facility when recording information.
  • Report all changes in the resident's condition to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse as soon as practical.
  • Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc., in an informative, descriptive manner.
  • Agree not to disclose resident's protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of disclosure to the Administrator.
  • Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempts to access the facility's information system.
  • Perform only nursing care procedures you have been trained to do.
  • Ensure the resident's room is ready for receiving the resident (bed made, name tags up, admission kit available, etc.).
  • Greet residents and escort them to their room; introduce the resident to his/her roommate and other residents and personnel as appropriate.
  • Inventory and mark the resident's personal possessions as instructed; store clothing and assist with packing possessions when transferring rooms or being discharged.
  • Transport residents to new rooms or to the receiving area; assist with loading/unloading residents to/from vehicles as necessary.
  • Participate in and receive the nursing report as instructed.
  • Follow established policies concerning exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Make beds as instructed and add extra covers as requested.
  • Measure and record temperatures, pulses, and respirations (TPRs) as instructed; weigh and measure residents as instructed.
  • Check residents who are unable to call for help and answer resident calls promptly.
  • Assist residents with identifying food arrangements and record the resident's food/fluid intake; report changes in eating habits to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
  • Keep residents' water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water, within easy reach of the resident.
  • Perform after-meal care (remove trays, clean resident's hands, face, clothing, etc.).
  • Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures and as instructed by supervisors; follow work assignments or schedules.
  • Cooperate with interdepartmental and facility personnel to ensure nursing services meet residents' needs.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals per facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information; report known or suspected unauthorized disclosures.
  • Report all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
  • Honor residents' refusal of treatment requests and report such requests to your supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Supervisory Requirements This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
  • Education and/or Experience Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education.
  • Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Mathematical Skills Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Abilities Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations As required by position or facility.
Physical Demands
