Volunteer: Mission, Vision, Brand Story: Focus Collective Impact & Systems ; Youth Edu

Overview

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.

The Challenge:
We are looking for professional assistance to rethink our mission, vision and how to effectively tell our story on a single website homepage. The foundation for what we do centers around collaboration and collective impact as a means to drive systems change. Part of the challenge is taking what’s in mind and writing it down to tell a compelling concise story about Fuse Change.

Tasks:
Help us generate a Mission, Vision, Goals/Objectives & Brand Story. Then describe how our programs relate to that mix.

How we tell our story effectively is a critical foundation for what we do and how we generate impact through our programs. We have had past successes that led us to where we are today, including raising $5M for a social enterprise focused on nonprofit collaboration. This included initial efforts to build technology to support collective impact in the nonprofit sector.

Later, we founded Fuse Change as a nonprofit to remove profit-driven motives. We have worked with the New York City Department of Education on open-source technology to support 100,000 homeless youth in the city, which guided a shift toward a focus on K–12 homelessness. We are pursuing a model where districts collaborate rather than work independently, with shared resources and ownership.

Our goal is that every child graduates from high school, helping reduce generational homelessness. The long-term objective is to raise funding to build open-source technologies and tools that enable underfunded school districts to support homeless youth and families, ensuring they have resources needed for graduation. This includes working across districts to pool funds and build features to coordinate resources effectively for homeless youth and families.

The long-term outcome is to extend these capabilities across the homelessness sector, enabling coordinated resource sharing among nonprofit and government agencies and bridging communities inside an open platform to collaborate across geolocations. The concept is that tackling a really challenging problem collectively is more effective. I will be working on this until I no longer can or until the problem is solved.

I am intensely focused on making this happen.

As the Founder and President of Fuse Change, I have been committed to the social sector for approximately 28 years. I hold a strong belief that collaboration and collective impact are essential to driving greater impact in less time and with fewer resources. I am fully committed to supporting volunteers and implementing changes quickly. I will personally implement these changes and gather any materials needed.

I am determined to see this through and to operate with the highest level of transparency.

Fuse Change is a nonprofit founded on powering ideas and solutions that support collaboration and collective impact for social impact. We are on a mission to ignite technology and methodologies that help communities discover one another and collaborate. The goal is to provide systems tools enabling organizations and projects to collaborate inside and across communities, so they can self-adjust, do more with fewer resources and time, and ultimately generate more impact, helping create systems-level change.
