About the Program
Transition Projects helps people transition from homelessness to housing. A leader in transitioning people from homelessness and living on the streets into housing in Portland, Oregon, Transition Projects operates and manages ten unique locations as well as facilitates hundreds of apartment placements each year, throughout the Portland Metropolitan area. The agency offers programs, resources, and tools to individuals through access to social services including caseworkers, healthcare, mentorship, and housing.

Do you love to cook and meet new people? Join Transition Projects as a Volunteer Chef and help feed over 700 people a night experiencing homelessness.
We're looking for volunteers who can reheat frozen, pre-cooked meals and serve dinner to our residents. No major cooking required, just reheat and serve! Enjoy making connections and building community with our residents while serving.
Example shift looks like:
5 pm - Volunteers arrive to heat up the meal and set serving station.
6:30 pm - Volunteers serve dinner to 60-120 residents (depending on shelter).
7 pm - Volunteers clean up kitchen and say goodbye.
- Age: Volunteers must be 18+
- Volunteers need evenings, usually Saturday, Sunday, and Mondays but possibly future days
- We ask volunteers commit to a weekly or biweekly meal for a minimum of 3-6 months.
- Valid OR Food Handler's Card is required.
