Interpreters Needed to Help Low-income Families! (age 16+ Referral)
MFS CASH Oregon is an economic empowerment program of Metropolitan Family Service committed to improving the financial health of lower-income families and individuals. As part of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, we provide free tax preparation services, culturally responsive outreach to communities facing barriers to accessing tax credits, and ITIN application assistance to thousands of families throughout the State of Oregon each year.
Do you want to use your language skills to make a real difference in your community? Does helping non-native English speakers access life-changing resources sound exciting? Then this is the opportunity for you!
Join a community of over 300 caring volunteers providing free tax preparation services to low-income families and helping overcome barriers to accessing tax credits by volunteering as a virtual interpreter!
Many of the families we help are native Spanish speakers, so we are building a team of bilingual tax preparers to help bridge the language gap for our Spanish-speaking clients. MFS CASH Oregon has 17 tax sites throughout the Portland Metro area, including in Beaverton and Gresham.
Not a tax expert? No problem! This is an interpretation-only role, and we’ll provide all the training you need.
To be a great volunteer, you just need to be:
- Compassionate and friendly
- Comfortable working with a diverse group of clients
- Willing to ask questions
- Willing to learn new skills
- Willing to adhere to high ethical standards
