Fitter​/Welder; Experienced

Summary

Fit and weld fabricated steel components for marine barges. Perform various welder functions under the direction of Foreman.

• Tack parts together in preparation for welding.
• Set up and operate welding equipment.
• Visually inspect completed welds to assure adherence to specifications.
• Remove excess slag.
• Perform production welding as required.
• Weld and fit in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Perform precise fitting work on components (steel panels and other parts).
• Follow and adhere strictly to Gunderson’s safety policies and regulations.

• Ability to weld structural steel and become certifiable in 1/16” flux core wire in all positions with unlimited thickness plate.
• Ability to pass a weld test of fillet welds in the horizontal, vertical and overhead position.
• Ability to pass groove weld tests which consist of a 1/2" 2G, 3G, and 4G plate.
• Ability to do math fraction calculations, read a tape measure and pass written weld test.
• Must be able to burn efficiently and with good quality using a hand‑cutting torch.
• Blueprint reading and layout skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot minor welding equipment problems.
• Ability to follow safety procedures.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers.
• Motivated to continuously improve and learn new skills.

• Experienced in gas‑shielded flux core welding process.
• Experience working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

The base pay range for this role is $23 – $31 per hour.
