Position: Shop Set Up CNC Machinist
Location: Portland, Oregon
Pay: $25 – $40 per hour (DOE)
Schedule: Full-time

You’ll lead our machining operations in a hands‑on role that includes multi‑axis CNC programming
, setup, and daily supervision of a small team.
Responsibilities include:
- Create and optimize CNC programs for multi‑axis mills and lathes using Mastercam and Solid Works
- Design fixtures and tooling for efficient setups
- Lead setups for critical jobs with proper work holding and tooling
- Standardize processes to improve setup times and consistency
- Supervise and act as the technical lead on the machining floor
- Assign jobs, monitor progress, and ensure production and quality targets are met
- Train and support machinists
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Oversee inspection of parts using calipers, micrometers, and CMMs
- Ensure parts meet engineering drawings and GD&T specs
- Collaborate with engineering and leadership to improve strategies and shop efficiency
- Maintain machine upkeep and monitor maintenance schedules

- 10 years of CNC machining and programming, setup experience
- Leadership or supervisory experience in a machine shop
- Proficiency in Mastercam
, Solid Works
, and G‑code programming (milling and turning, including 5‑axis) - Strong understanding of tooling, materials, feeds/speeds, and precision machining
- Ability to read technical drawings and interpret GD&T
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Hands‑on experience with 3, 4, and 5‑axis CNC machines
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor team members
- High standards for quality, safety, and efficiency
- Background in aerospace
, defense
, or medical industries - Experience implementing process improvements on the shop floor
