Objective:
Check and maintain furnaces to ensure operation and vacuum levels meet all Process Control Procedures and assure each of the 25 different alloys produced are in compliance with all heat sheets, customer specs, SOPs, PCPs and QCMs.
Essential Job Functions:
- A. Check furnace operation vacuum level, power supplies, pumping system, cooling system computer system and overall operation of the furnace.
- B. Use ABS charge makeup sheet for preparation of master heats to meet the ASC melt schedule. Ensures all revert and elements are weighted correctly.
- C. Load material into charge cans. Verify all paperwork and material weighed is correct before starting the heat.
Marginal Job Function:
- D. Notify appropriate personnel of low raw materials levels as needed.
Objective:
Operate the furnace and complete the melting of a master heat before pouring ingots into molds.
Essential Job Functions:
- A. Maintain and monitor vacuum levels throughout melts according to PCP 046‑045 and 046‑042.
- B. Charge furnace by adding virgin and revert materials as required using NEOVIM melt procedure in PCP 046‑045 and 046‑042.
- C. Take sample of molten metal for lab analysis; make adjustments to the composition using the ABS Alloy Blend System. Work with lab and department metallurgist. Hand‑calculate additions as needed.
- D. Approve start of pouring process when heat composition meets specifications.
- E. Operate furnace to pour alloy ingots; operate mold filling system during pours, hydraulic systems, doors, cranes and hoists.
- F. Use electronic heat log to document entire heat. Complete all paperwork at the end of the pour. Enter all elements and revert usage into the ASC data log.
- G. Meet master heat production time according to department standard.
Objective:
Maintain the 6.5 and 8 ton ASC master melt furnace systems.
Essential Job Functions:
- A. Maintain and monitor condition of melting coils, furnace linings, power leads, power supply, water cooling system and pumps, hydraulic system and pumps, vacuum pumping system and pumps. Maintain all mechanical parts to keep the furnace running efficiently.
