Job Description
- Custom metal fabrication business with unionized work force
- Oversee production, fabrication and installation of all items
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure all work is completed on-time
- Coordinate and oversee all installations (in coordination with project managers)
- Provide feedback to project managers and estimators regarding actual fabrication process and time vs. budget / plan
- Foresee / communicate / avoid scheduling conflicts
- Oversee Hanset Stainless QC process
- Oversee QC’ing of vendors’ material
- Manage shop employees, including interpersonal relationships
- Maintain positive shop morale
- Coordinate and interface with the union
- Ensure all shop employees are utilized at 100% capacity 100% of the time
- Ensure all shop employees are exerting 100% effort 100% of the time
- Budget time requirements and staff shop accordingly (hire, temporary layoffs, permanent layoffs)
- Develop daily “game plan” by employee and task
- Modify daily “game plan” as new work is generated, existing work changes, existing schedules and priorities shift, fabrication timelines change, etc.
- Provide clear and concise direction to shop employees
- Monitor and manage stock material levels
- Ordering: order stock material and shop supplies
- Set and monitor long-run manufacturing plans for OEM products in order to meet customer’s deadlines
- Source and screen vendors
- Oversee, coordinate and log maintenance and repair of all equipment
- Oversee and manage shipping & receiving
- Develop and manage training program for apprentices, ensuring the next generation has the skills required to succeed
- Work to continuously improve the skills of the entire crew
- Planning of the day’s, week’s and month’s projects and associated labor and material required
- Prioritization of tasks and jobs to ensure employees remain busy and jobs are completed on time (constant re-evaluation)
- Foresight, particularly of potential pitfalls
- Clear and frequent Communication with project managers, estimators, accounting department, customers and shop employees
- Leadership:
Ability to manage diverse and strong personalities, including tough conversations regarding attitudes, work ethics, quality of craftsmanship, etc. - Multitasking:
Ability to handle multiple projects, problems, conflicts, employee directions, personnel issues, project hand-offs, ordering requirements, vendors, etc. at one time - Mechanical:
