Clackamas County Public Health seeks an experienced, values-driven leader as the Deputy Public Health Director
. This rare opportunity shapes public health's future in a growing, diverse county by advancing health equity, strengthening partnerships, and building responsive, inclusive, effective systems.

As operational leader, the Deputy works closely with the Public Health Director and the senior leadership team. This role directs strategy, oversees operations, and ensures the delivery of excellent, accountable, and equitable public health programs.

In this visible leadership role, guide daily public health operations with a systems-level view. Act on behalf of the Director as needed, set division priorities, align resources, and turn vision into action.

The Deputy Public Health Director oversees administration, budgeting, reporting, and performance management for multiple programs, ensuring compliance and ongoing improvement. It works with the Finance Team on annual budgets, identifies alternative funding, and helps secure grants. As a people-centered leader, the Deputy will hire, coach, and support management staff. The position fosters a collaborative workplace and supports staff growth and well-being.

It will champion trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices and guide teams through change with clarity and empathy.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned public health leader with operational expertise and a strong equity lens. You have coordinated foundational public health services and can navigate complex, cross-sector systems. Our next Deputy will be an inclusive, authentic leader who values diverse perspectives, encourages innovation, and builds trust with staff and partners. They will demonstrate success in improving systems, processes, and workflows, and will lead with emotional intelligence, transparency, and accountability.

The Deputy must understand the importance of community-based, evidence-informed approaches to eliminating health disparities and be committed to advancing social and environmental justice in policy and practice.
