The Position

The Accounting Manager – Revenue is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and optimizing the organization's revenue functions to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment with strategic goals. This role provides a strategic connection across all functions of the organization as well as a deep understanding of the specific needs related to revenue budgeting. Day to day activities will include overseeing the various aspects of revenue tracking, working with budget owners and grant staff in developing and maintaining grant budgets, and assisting staff with various revenue related requests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of organization’s revenue accounting functions: understanding budgeted and actual revenue amounts, reviewing revenue documentation to determine appropriate revenue allocations.
  • Coordinate Grant Budgets: work with Grants team, Conservation staff and Finance staff to develop and track grant budgets for grant proposals and program budgets.
  • Serve as a liaison between Development, Conservation and Finance: attending Development team update meetings and organization budget meetings to provide insight into revenue forecasts, expectations, and realities.
  • Facilitate annual Stronghold Fund/Durability internal subgrant award process.
  • Complete annual Charitable Solicitation Renewal process.
  • Review and track Pledges Receivable and Accounts Receivable, including Program Revenue.
  • Track revenue and calculate subgrants related to partner contracts.
  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic files:
    Blackbaud, Smart Sheets, contracts file.
  • Work closely with the Development, Conservation staff, and Finance to ensure financial and programmatic compliance.
  • Provide required reports for auditors.
  • Oversee internal systems for tracking federal, state, and local government requirements and policies for grants and contracts.
  • Assist Conservation staff in regard to sub-awardee contracts: track sub-awardee expenses, milestones, and matching funds; process invoices; and communicate with sub-awardees and government contacts.
  • Research and thoroughly understand government policies and procedures related to all WSC’s government grants and contracts; share knowledge with conservation and development staff through trainings, briefings, and written communication.
  • Complete NICRA application annually.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises support staff within Finance team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent field.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in accounting.
  • Interest in pursuing CPA licensure (preferred).
  • Experience managing government grants revenue and compliance.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Highly skilled and motivated to collaborate across functions to achieve strategic goals for the organization.
  • Ability to think strategically, analyze complex issues, and develop effective solutions.
  • Proficiency in relevant financial and project management software and technology:
    Microsoft Office, Google suite, financial management and CRM systems (Smart Sheets, Blackbaud,…
