Janitor - Karibu

Central City Concern is an innovative nonprofit agency providing comprehensive services to single adults and families in the Portland metro area who are impacted by homelessness, poverty and addictions. Karibu Stabilization for Treatment Preparation (Karibu STP) is a culturally specific transitional housing program that provides services for Black/African American men (ages 18+) who have behavioral health needs and are involved in, or at risk of involvement with, the criminal justice system. Karibu's facility offers transitional, dorm-style housing with 15 beds. During their stay, for up to 9 months, participants engage in programming, while working on securing next-step housing.

Karibu is co-located at this facility with Imani Center.

This person will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of lobbies, hallways, offices, bathrooms, and exterior common areas through tasks like sweeping, mopping, disinfecting, polishing floors, cleaning carpets, and pressure washing as needed. You’ll also help keep buildings healthy by identifying and reporting pest activity and ensuring all work areas are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly manner—making a visible impact every day for residents, staff, and visitors.

• Must possess a current driver’s license, pass a DMV background check, and be designated as an "acceptable" driver as outlined in Central City Concern's Fleet Safety Policy. Must pass an initial driver's training within 60 days of being an approved driver and continue recertification training.
• Must have at least six months experience in interior and exterior janitorial cleaning and pest control.
• Must be trained or be able to be trained in bio-hazard cleanup.
• Must be able to read, write and understand English.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB test and background check. Must have the ability to work in all C.C.C. Housing buildings and outside locations.
• Ability to adhere to Central City Concern’s drug-free workplace which encourages a safe, healthy and productive work environment and strictly complies with the Drug-Free Workplace Ace of 1988. An employee shall not, in the workplace, unlawfully manufacture, distribute, dispense, possess or use a controlled substance or alcohol.
• Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform duties.
• Will be required to carry an agency cell phone for work use. A cell phone will be provided by Central City Concern.
• Must have the ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects, carry 10 to 30 pounds frequently, and climb stairs.
• Must adhere to agency’s non-discrimination policies.
• Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliations, cultural backgrounds, lifestyles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.

• Regularly assess buildings for hazards and fire code violations to maintain compliance. Submit and track maintenance requests to resolution.
• Assist with leadership, training and oversight of crew.
• Clean lobbies, hallways, unoccupied offices, bathrooms, common areas and residential rooms.
• Responsible for program storage rooms and recycling of outdated items.
• Responsible for maintaining SDS and teaching staff how to access and use.
• Responsible for stocking and inventory of all janitorial supplies.
• Assist with other janitorial duties as needed and provide back-up for absences. May float to other sites to provide support as needed.
• Clean windows, floors, countertops, elevators, appliances and fixtures.
• Sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, washing, disinfecting and polishing.
