SummaryThe Maintenance Technician I is responsible for maintaining and improving the physical plant of Robison Jewish Health Center, Rose Schnitzer Manor, and associated equipment and machinery.

- Maintenance and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pump units, nurse call system, paging/intercom system, commercial washers and dryers, commercial kitchen equipment, low pressure hydronil heating system, commercial blowers, exhaust fans, circulating pumps, air compressors, and auxiliary electric generators.
- Fire alarm installation and maintenance, including smoke detectors.
- Perform carpentry, cabinetry, and laminate work.
- Sheet rocking, taping, and texturing.
- Wall repair, patching, painting, and wallpapering.
- Replacement of floor and ceiling tiles.
- Keep shop, tools, and supplies clean, orderly, and safe.
- Set up, take down, move and arrange furniture for special activities.
- Assist in moving resident furniture and personal belongings as needed.
- Assist with decorating as needed.
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedule and record‑keeping.
- Minor maintenance of company vehicles.
- Assist residents with maintenance problems in their rooms.
- Use company vehicles for pick‑ups and/or deliveries as needed.
- Notify supervisor of broken equipment and other unsafe or unhygienic issues.
- Work with outside contractors.
- Assist in remodeling and building projects.
- Assist with safety programs and procedures as needed.
- At times, be available in off‑duty hours for emergency situations.
- Consistently excellent customer service.
- Ethical conduct.
- Able to effectively communicate with geriatric and/or confused residents and a variety of other people such as family members, visitors, vendors, private duty resident employees, and staff.
- Able to remain calm and respond well under stress or in emergency situations.
- Must be able to follow instructions and complete assignments without constant supervision and able to direct other workers.
- Must be able to project and obtain estimates of material, time and cost.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Working EnvironmentWorks in a well‑lit and well‑ventilated facility. Also works outdoors and may be exposed to excessive heat or cold. May be exposed to confused, belligerent or physically aggressive residents, may be exposed to contagious diseases and mental stress. Works closely with others and at other times works alone. Has frequent exposure to dust, noise, heat, chemical fumes, gases, chemicals, grease, oils, and solvents.
Walking surfaces can be slippery or uneven. May be exposed to radiant or electrical energy. Works with and around machinery and moving parts. At times works below ground.
Manual dexterity, good vision, and hearing required. Must be able to read product labels and distinguish colors.
Physical Demands
Summary:
The role requires regular lifting and carrying of varying weights, ranging from light (0–24 lbs) to heavy (60–100 lbs), with frequency dependent on task demands. Employees may be required to reach above shoulder height while handling light weights for up to three hours per day. The position also involves pushing and pulling carts or trucks weighing up to 300 lbs, including movement up and down ramps, multiple times per day.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Required Experience3 – 5 years.
