Core Objectives- High Quality Legal Work: Play an active role in managing assigned matters, producing timely and well-reasoned work product, while advancing cases efficiently in collaboration with partners, senior attorneys, paralegals, and staff. Responsible for all substantive aspects of family law cases, including client counseling, discovery, motion practice, negotiation, mediation, and court appearances, with increasing independence as experience and demonstrated competence allow.
- Professional Client Representation: Provide exceptional prompt and professional client services from consultation to the conclusion of each case. Keep clients informed by maintaining regular contact and communicating case progress and strategy with staff support.
What follows is a sample list of responsibilities in this role. This list is not intended to be exclusive but will identify some typical day-to-day tasks and projects.
- Manage family law matters by supporting senior attorneys handling more complex cases and by managing your own caseload as appropriate to your experience level.
- Manage deadlines while following court rules and ethical obligations.
- Develop case strategy independently and in collaboration with partners and senior attorneys as appropriate depending on experience level.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on family law issues. Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, declarations and settlement documents.
- Review and analyze discovery materials, including financial documents.
- Prepare clients for and participate in each stage of a family law case, including depositions, mediation, hearings, and trial.
- Communicate effectively with opposing counsel, court personnel, and other professionals.
- Work collaboratively with internal professionals such as paralegals and staff to manage cases efficiently and support firm operations.
- Accurately record billable time and comply with firm billing and administrative practices.
- Comply with all legal standards and regulations consistent with firm procedures and policies related to case management and firm administration.
- Attend business development and networking functions with firm leadership and solo.
Experience
- At least 4 years’ experience practicing Family Law in Oregon.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience handling a heavy case load involving custody and parenting time, property division, spousal and child support.
- Deposition, mediation and trial experience in family law matters, or have other meaningful litigation experience.
- Active Oregon State Bar membership is required. Washington State Bar membership is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience providing exceptional client service, including the ability to build rapport with clients.
