Job SummaryThis position reports to the management team currently comprised of the COO and CEO. The Underwriting Assistant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of rating information for commercial property and casualty insurance renewals, communicating effectively with clients for information gathering and accurate file documentation. The role will include filing surplus line premium taxes both promptly and accurately, generating loss run reports, and ordering and follow-through of third-party inspection recommendations.
The Underwriting Assistant ensures strict adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and compliance.
- Assist underwriting and brokerage teams with development and implementation of company product and service offerings.
- Prompt and accurate policy tax stamping and filing.
- Final policy checking and issuance.
- Solicitation and follow-up of policy renewal applications.
- Ordering and review of outsourced building and job site loss control inspections.
- Assist with the processing and completion of premium audits.
- Under the supervision of a broker or underwriter the Underwriting Assistant may negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing on new and renewal business as needed.
- Perform other duties critical to the company as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required or currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program and graduating no later than Spring 2026. Candidates possessing a Business Administration degree are preferred, other related disciplines or commensurate academic work will be considered.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to work independently while prioritizing multiple responsibilities.
- Effective customer service skills with demonstrated ability to communicate professionally.
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Problem solving—the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully and maintains confidentiality of company and customer information.
- Well versed in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel.
- Manual dexterity, arm and upper body range of motion sufficient for use of a keyboard, mouse and telephone for several hours per day.
- Speech and hearing sufficient for in-person and telephone communication for up to several hours.
- Vision sufficient for use of a computer monitor.
- Ability to sit at a desk for several hours per day.
