HR Generalist (Employee Relations Focus)

Location: Hybrid based in Portland, OR (the role will initially be 100% onsite, and once you are trained into the role will become hybrid with up to two days per week remote)

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $32–$36 per hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday, full-time

About the Role

LHH Recruitment is seeking an experienced HR Generalist with a strong background in employee relations and workplace investigations
. This role is heavily focused on being the first point of contact for employees, coaching Managers, and conducting full-cycle investigations—interviewing, documentation, findings, and recommending actions.

The ideal candidate is confident, professional, highly organized, and able to handle sensitive employee matters with discretion and objectivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employee Relations (Top Priority) – Lead and manage full-cycle employee investigations, including: intake and issue assessment; conducting interviews (employees, witnesses, managers); documenting findings and writing investigation reports; recommending corrective actions and partnering with leadership on outcomes; provide guidance on performance management, corrective action, and conflict resolution; act as a trusted advisor to managers on employee-related issues.
  • HR Operations & Support – Support HR processes including leaves, benefits questions, onboarding/offboarding, and compliance tasks; maintain accurate HRIS records, personnel files, and documentation; assist with policy interpretation and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; partner with leadership to promote a fair and consistent workplace culture, including DEI initiatives.
  • Training & Development – Identify training needs in collaboration with leadership and department managers; assist in developing, updating, and delivering training content related to workplace conduct, anti-harassment and compliance, performance management, new hire onboarding refreshers; support the creation and maintenance of training calendars, materials, and tracking systems; reinforce learning objectives by coaching managers and staff on development opportunities; ensure all training activities align with company policies, culture, and DEI commitments.
Required Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years HR Generalist experience
    , with demonstrated volume and depth in employee relations and investigations (not just occasional).
  • Excellent written and overall communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain professionalism with employees at all levels.
  • Knowledge of employment laws (FMLA, ADA, OR state regulations, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Furthering education such as SHRM, PHR or similar.
