Organ Donation Coordinator
Join Oregon Health & Science University as an Organ Donation Coordinator (ODC) in the Cascade Life Alliance (CLA) Donor Service Area (DSA) hospitals covering Oregon, southern Washington, and southwest Idaho.
Base pay range: $93,392 - $149,156 per year.
Core Duties Donor Evaluation and Management- Evaluate medical suitability of potential organ donors, using clinical records, history, physical examination, and current clinical status.
- Independently manage the clinical stability of the donor patient in critical care and coordinate with the AOC/Medical Director when appropriate.
- Request and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests needed for donor evaluation and clinical management.
- Coordinate organ placement in accordance with organizational allocation policies and UNOS policy.
- Lead coordination of transportation and logistics for local and external recovery programs, preparing for operative phase.
- Implement quality assurance measures in compliance with regulatory requirements for organ procurement and transplantation.
- Communicate effectively, coordinate processes, and collaborate with hospital staff, CLA colleagues, and partner agencies.
- Maintain understanding of each hospital’s culture, policies, and best practices.
- Serve as an in‑person consultant, educator, and subject‑matter expert for healthcare partners, providing real‑time troubleshooting, problem solving, and relationship building.
- Provide timely feedback with the hospital development department to ensure continued collaboration.
- Collaborate with the Donation and Family Advocate (DFA) team to facilitate authorization or disclosure with the legal next of kin.
- Conduct donor risk assessment interviews with the identified surrogate of the potential organ donor.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to donor families throughout the case, connecting them to available hospital, community, and social resources.
- Bachelor’s of Science with a healthcare‑related focus or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years of recent relevant clinical or donation‑related experience.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Skills and Abilities
- Extensive clinical healthcare knowledge with ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and prioritization in stressful environments.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with high emotional intelligence and situational awareness.
- Flexibility to work unpredictable, extended hours and shifts, independently or as part of a team.
- American Board for Transplant Certification CPTC credential.
- Experience as an organ procurement coordinator.
- Requirement to obtain CPTC certification within two years of hire.
- Critical care experience in pediatrics, neurosurgery, medical‑surgical, cardiovascular, trauma, or emergency medicine.
- Leadership experience as charge or resource nurse and background caring for donor patients and families.
The ODC works for a 12‑24 hour period per shift and may travel via commercial aircraft and vehicle.
