Job Summary

The Associate Director, Student Wellness oversees the Wellness Education and Prevention Program at the University of Portland and will provide visionary leadership and strategic management of student wellness promotion. This position plays a pivotal role in developing and advancing a culture of holistic well‑being across campus by implementing programming that empowers students to thrive emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

The Associate Director collaborates with internal and external partners to implement inclusive, data‑driven, and evidence‑informed health promotion strategies addressing key focus areas including emotional well‑being, alcohol and drug education, sleep, nutrition, sexual violence prevention, and general self‑care. In addition to program development and implementation, this position is responsible for supervising staff, strategic planning and assessment, policy development, and budget management. This position reports to the Director of the Health & Counseling Center.

This full‑time position works on an 11‑month assignment period from July 1 through May 31 with benefits eligibility for all 12 months of the year.

Core Duties
  • Lead, develop, and assess comprehensive wellness and prevention initiatives for students, ensuring programming is high‑quality, cost‑effective, and developmentally appropriate.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion through culturally responsive programming and services and advance institutional well‑being strategies in alignment with the university’s Holy Cross mission.
  • Oversee the Wellness Education and Prevention Program which supports peer education and student engagement in health promotion efforts. Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence‑informed initiatives on topics including alcohol and drug use, sexual health, and emotional well‑being. Provide training and workshops as needed for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to maintain visibility and impact of student wellness efforts, collaborating with the Health & Counseling Center primary care and counseling services staff.
  • Direct ongoing student health needs and manage wellness assessments, program evaluations, and outcomes. Use informed data to shape strategic planning, form policies, and manage resource allocation.
  • Ensure policies minimize risk and align with legal compliance and ethical best practices.
  • Oversee student wellness communications, including digital content, social media, newsletters, and campus campaigns; ensuring alignment with the University’s Marketing & Communications directives.
  • Manage and collaborate with the Wellness Program Coordinator on virtual education requirements and compliance tracking.
  • In collaboration with Health & Counseling Center Director, strategically manage operational and programming budgets.
  • Work with other university staff, faculty, and administrators in consultation, outreach, and collaborative initiatives as needed.
  • Engage in campus collaboration by serving on campus committees that oversee student care, wellbeing, and mental health.
  • Engage in Health & Counseling Center meetings and development activities; complete special projects as assigned, including policy and procedure development as directed.
  • Supervise staff and student employees who support student wellness promotion. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring processes, setting of expectations, training and professional development, performance management and evaluations, and disciplinary processes including termination of employment.

Education & Experience
  • Required:

    Master’s in public health, health promotion, health education, or related field.
  • Required:

    3 or more years of professional experience in higher education health promotion, inclusive of supervisory experience with progressive growth.
