Base pay range – $86,367.00/yr to $/yr (actual pay based on skills and experience).

The Pediatric Palliative Care Social Worker provides a professional continuum of services to address the psychosocial needs of patients and families affected by serious and life‑limiting illnesses. As a member of the Palliative Care Consultation Service, the social worker completes psychosocial assessments, provides counseling, participates in treatment planning, and offers resource referrals. The role collaborates with unit social workers and case managers on transitional care and discharge planning and serves as an identified expert in palliative care, offering consultation and educational programming to OHSU staff and the community.

The social worker actively participates in telemedicine efforts to increase rural providers’ competence in palliative care and may provide services in Adult, Pediatric, Emergency Department settings or on home visits.

• Conduct culturally competent psychosocial evaluations of patients and families.
• Provide grief and loss counseling and education.
• Advocate for patients and families in line with a family‑centered care philosophy, supporting dignity, information sharing, participation, and collaboration.
• Assess support needs and make appropriate referrals.
• Offer crisis intervention and supportive counseling, including short‑term therapeutic interventions, support groups, and family systems work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Master’s Social Work (MSW) required.
• Clinical certification (CSWA or LCSW) required for employees practicing clinical social work.
• Ability to implement assessments, short‑term counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy.
• Excellent task prioritization, time management, and communication skills.

• Health‑care experience preferred.
• 1 year of medical social work experience.
• 1 year of palliative care and/or hospice experience.

Requires prioritization, frequent interruptions in a dynamic environment, accountability for inpatient units, exposure to body fluids, tissue, possible radiation, and infectious processes. May involve computer work for several hours as needed and use of office equipment.
