The OR MSPU PAS Resource Specialist provides high quality customer service to both external and internal customers and has the primary responsibility to schedule and coordinate the procedure units schedules as well as support the scheduling needs across Perioperative Services, patient eligibility for services, and complex referrals. This is accomplished with coordination and leadership with other PAS staff and support personnel across the organization.
This is remote and highly atonomous position. Perioperative Services is fast paced environment where prioritization of work is essential.
Function/Duties of PositionScheduling and Coordinating Procedures:
- Responsible for scheduling of procedures, both anesthesia and non-anesthesia in multiple locations. Responsible for all the scheduling, rescheduling and canceling procedures. Schedules recovery into the Procedural Care Unit and arranges interpreters when necessary. Gathers and verifies patient demographic information.
- Arranges interpreters when necessary, and accommodates other special needs whenever possible. Mails information packets. Provides personal reminders to patients about upcoming procedures. Investigates scheduling errors, patient volume, flow, cancelled and rescheduled appointments. Supports in the coordinating and scheduling ancillary services preceding and/or during surgical procedures.
- Maintains a service-based working knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding. Confirms patient eligibility for health care coverage. Maintains current information on managed care insurance plans. Provides on the job training, orientation, guidance and coaching for new PAS personnel in the service area. Fills in as needed for any subordinate PAS position within the service areas. Responsible for scheduling in other MPSU locations outside primary (GI, Cardiac Cath Lab, EP, Interventional Radiology, MPSU) as needed for backup or overflow volume needs.
Obtains managed care authorizations for procedures as needed. Manages complex referrals as needed. Covers the PAS or HUC role at the front desk locations of the procedure units as needed.
Telecommunications:
- Triages and documents accurately telephone calls from patients and staff including requests for case booking, complaints, general information inquiries, and urgent health care concerns. Delivers such information or requests promptly to the appropriate providers or their designees.
- One year of experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume direct patient contact, scheduling of appointments and may require experience obtaining managed care authorizations (dependent on position description).
OR - One and a half years of work experience in a high volume direct public contact position and 6 months experience in a medical office setting.
- The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of PAS policies and procedures.
- Candidates will have demonstrated advanced PAS user skills as well as extensive knowledge of integrated care at OHSU.
- Basic computer skills including word processing.
- Windows applications, on-line scheduling, and a preference for data-base skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions.
- Preference given to candidates with knowledge of OHSU's PAS policies and procedures, with completed PAS training and core competencies, and with previous PAS experience.
- GI, CCL, IR or other procedural scheduling experience
- OR or PSS Scheduling experience
- Proficient with MS Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Experience with iQueue software system.
